Ford Explorer: Three Different Engine Options

The base engine, a 3.5L V6, produces 290 horsepower and 255 lb-ft of torque, powerful enough for the daily drive to work and a weekend adventure, too. With the valve cam timing technology, performance is optimized to match driving conditions. There are two other engines available: a 2.3L EcoBoost®, and a 3.5L EcoBoost®.

Standard trailer sway control is able to brake and adjust engine power to keep control of an attached trailer. The 2019 Explorer has surprising power, capable of towing up to 5,000 pounds when it’s equipped properly. If you will be towing items, you’ll need to have the Class III Trailer Tow Package. This is standard with the 3.5L EcoBoost® engine and an available feature on the base edition of the Explorer with the V6 engine.

Inside the Cabin

It’s important you feel at home every time you step inside your car. The easiest way to do that is by checking out the different options offered on each Explorer trim. For example, the Explorer Platinum features quilted premium leather seating and leather door inserts, which give more of a luxurious feel to the cabin. For more cargo room, fold down the PowerFold® third-row seats at the press of a button.

Total cargo space inside the Explorer measures around 82 cu. ft., with space for items on trips both long and short. Whether you’re carrying hiking gear, luggage, or groceries, the Explorer can probably fit it. Hands tied on the way to the car? The available hands-free liftgate is certainly a useful tool. The cargo area will open up after you wave your foot in front of the rear bumper.

Tech Features

The available Ford Safe and Smart Package brings together a range of tech features. With this package, you’ll have rain-sensing wipers capable of turning on when the first drops are detected, while automatic high-beam headlamps adjust to oncoming traffic without any driver input needed. Meanwhile, the Lane-Keeping System detects whether or not the Ford Explorer is drifting from its lane and lets you know if driving adjustments need to be made.

The available front 180-degree camera with split view allows you to see 180 degrees in front of the vehicle. It has a built-in washer, which keeps the lens clear and debris-free.
